Land, Sea and Sky
The land, sea and air around us are by their very definition the environment in which we exist and live and through which we experience the world and wider universe and it forms the focus for much of my inspiration as an artist.
In our increasingly urbanized lives with mediated experiences via TV, computers and social media, we as individuals and western society is becoming increasingly detached from the natural world from which it and we all depend. I try to capture in much of my work, the beauty I see and the awe and wonder I still feel when surrounded by the natural world whether it is wild moorland, crashing waves and howling wind or a secluded oak grove.
These studio paintings of Vesuvius were created from a series of studies in watercolour from our hotel in Sorrento across the bay.
